Homemade Maple Glazed Donuts!!

To view all my baking posts, click here! I’m called Sammicakes for a reason, y’know.

I have made beignets many times, but I realized I had never once made donuts throughout my entire prolific baking career. Since we always get Dunkin Donuts every Sunday–and since I’m not a huge fan of them–I decided to see if I could compete with a national chain.

These are made from a raised, yeast dough, which isn’t typically my favorite when ordering from a bakery. However, these turned out amazing! The outside had a thin crispy layer that only took a few seconds to fry, and the inside retained a fluffy, soft texture. My whole family really enjoyed them, with my dad declaring they were better than Dunkin Donuts (which was my duplicitous plan all along!) I would say this recipe, which you can find here, is worth your time.

The maple glaze was my own sweet creation, and it turned out better than I had imagined. All I used was powdered sugar, 4 tablespoons of melted butter, a bunch of 100% maple syrup, and some milk. The plain, slightly salty taste of the donut really complimented the sweetness of the maple glaze.

If you like my baking posts, stick around for next week: I’m trying my hand at my favorite type of donut, sour cream cake-based! Thank you for reading my little baking ramble, and if you would like to support me, please consider buying my novel, Accursed Red.

turns out we don’t have any circle donut cutters, but I think the snowflakes, stars, and hearts are cuter anyway!

so light and airy, it’s impossible to have just one!
